THE COMMUNITY SPACE YOU’VE BEEN CRAVING
I started hosting these Breathwork + Community Circles out of sheer frustration.
Hang in there, I’ll explain.
As someone who has been teaching yoga and breathwork in studio spaces for many years, I have come to find that most studio schedules leave very little room for real human connection before and after practice.
And I get it, having a stacked schedule with back to back classes is a great way to appease a wide variety of customers who are simply doing their best to get their self-care practices in when it best fits their busy lives.
We see it all the time: class starts on the hour – most people show up and leave rushed or frantic – 5 min after class starts, and chomping at the bit to get out as soon as it's over without even a smidge of a hello or a goodbye to the teacher or those they just spent the last hour practicing alongside.
And at the same rate, being rushed in and out of such a meaningful practice, like Breathwork or Yoga feels counterintuitive to me. It feels… transactional; which just doesn’t resonate with the way I prefer to hold space.
As a facilitator of embodied healing, I believe it is very important to get a sense for why and how a person is arriving into a practice so that I can more deeply understand what they need and how I can best support them while they are under my guidance.
Additionally, I find so much power in offering those who join me for practice the opportunity to get a feel for who they are sharing the experience with as a way to cultivate a deeper sense of safety within the communal healing space, and so they can meet other like-minded and like-hearted humans.
The photo you see here is us at the beginning of our journey, where we started these sessions in the living room of my old apartment! To think we’ve grown from groups of 10 to 35+ in a real, live venue is insanely exciting and humbling. Join us as we continue to grow and evolve!
